On November  , 1942 Clancy was taken by train to Fort Indiantown Gap. Where he was officially inducted into the Unisted States Army.

 

 There, he swore an oath of enlistment in the Army:

 

"I, Clarence O'dell Lyall, do solemnly swear that I will support the constitution of the United States." I, Clarence Odell Lyall, do solemnly swear to bear true allegiance to the United States of America, and to serve them honestly and faithfully, against all their enemies or opposers whatsoever, and to observe and obey the orders of the President of the United States of America, and the orders of the officers appointed over me."

 

Such were the words of the oath of enlistment that he spoke as he raised his right hand.
